Not about TechEd at all, it is about a fish

Jun 2, 2003 2 min.

Skipped out of work on Friday morning to go sea Finding Nemo with my son. He is only 2yrs old, so he probably isn’t really ready for going to movies as a general practice… but he really enjoyed it. About a month ago I was in Las Vegas and I brought him home a “Nemo” plush fish… I explained that in a month (which is a longer period of time than he can really grasp, but he knew it was “soon, but not now”) he and I would go to a movie with Nemo in it.

1st Day

Jun 1, 2003 2 min.

Woo Hoo, I got a bag when I registered! Lately, I haven’t been getting them, something about the “staff” on my registration at all of these things… so my laptop bag closet was getting a little empty. I give these great bags away to my friends and family, there are just too many for one person, which is why you might see my mother roaming around with a TechEd bag, or see my wife at the park with my son and a nice VSLive “tote”!

So I’m here, now what?

Jun 1, 2003 2 min.

I thought I had better write my first TechEd related post, now that I’ve joined techedbloggers.net, and especially since I’ve arrived in Dallas. Nothing much to report except a minor complaint; the Hyatt Regency doesn’t have high-speed Internet… and that is a bit of a disappointment. Yeah, yeah, I know… boo-hoo, no high-speed Internet, poor Microsoft guy. But really… there are a ton of TechEd attendees here, it looks like we’ve filled up the place, so I think it would have been handy for a lot of people… although I’m mostly just concerned about me at the moment, it just sounds better if I say I’m worried about all the other attendees.

MSDN Security Developer Center is up!

May 29, 2003 1 min.

Yet another Developer Center has been launched, this one is all about Security and is being run by one of my colleagues; Brian Johnson… check it out at http://msdn.microsoft.com/security Welcome to the Security Developer Center As a leader in the software industry, Microsoft recognizes its responsibility to develop technology and programming interfaces that allow application developers to create secure applications. The MSDN Security Developer Center is a direct result of the focus that Microsoft has put on security and trustworthy computing.

.NET Show and VBTV are on the MSDN DVDs!

May 22, 2003 1 min.

This might be common knowledge, but when Darren was in town he mentioned that downloading our multi-media presentations like VBTV and the .NET Show was too expensive from Australia due to the price of bandwidth… I had hoped to burn some to disc while he was here, but I forgot 🙁 Turns out they are on the DVD editions of the MSDN library subscription though; For a brief summary of all seminars and presentations, with links to launch them, DVD subscribers should go to the \media\default.

Response to low MSDN pricing

May 21, 2003 3 min.

DonXML was discussing the various prices he has seen on the web for MSDN subscriptions, and being from MSDN I was a little curious. I asked around, and it turns out we have a canned response to this question that you might find helpful (or not). The sheer volume and ever changing number of offers, resellers, businesses, marketing programs and selling that takes place on the global commerce stage precludes Microsoft from being in a position to validate every MSDN subscription offer in the market.

Creating a new account on blogger.com

May 21, 2003 1 min.

In an earlier post, I mentioned wanting to create a blog for my wife… and based on a variety of great feedback through email and comments I decided to create an account on blogger.com, but I can’t get it to work! I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, and they don’t provide anyway to contact them… but I keep getting an error that the username is taken and I’ve tried so many possiblities, including adding random numbers to the end of the name … I’ve stopped believing that the username really is taken and instead I think they are just having some other type of problem!

High-Powered MSFT Blog!

May 20, 2003 1 min.

I thought it was shocking enough when [ my grand-boss ](http://blogs.gotdotnet.com/saraw/) started blogging, but now the Senior Vice President of Microsoft’s Developer Platform and Evangelism Group, [ Eric Rudder ](http://msdn.microsoft.com/blogs/ericr/) has a blog… I’ve already learned that he codes at night and I’m sure there will be more interesting tidbits coming! Yet another feed added to my OPML.

Wow, leave Kent in front of his computer for a few hours…

and look at the stuff he produces. Pretty cool, although I’m still planning to add the GUID and other attributes to the source doc… otherwise we will be creating new GUIDs on every trip (is that a big deal? it isn’t like we are going to run out of them soon, but I hate to be wasteful)… of course, you would all be even more impressed with the man if you had seen all the code and XML samples he sent via email at the same time.

Nice plug from Sean Alexander…

May 18, 2003 1 min.

Sean mentions my last article, which was all about the new WMP 9 “blogging” plug-in. To answer the question asked in his comments, yes… grabbing the dll and regsvr32’ing it will allow it to work on Windows Server 2003… or even on Longhorn if you are into that sort of thing… Of course, I’d suggest that you don’t run WMP9, IE, or blogging client software on your Windows Server, but I don’t want to sound crazy
