Matt Warren discusses ObjectSpaces and ORM in general

Apr 21, 2004 1 min.

Check out this post from ‘The Wayward WebLog’… it is a good discussion starter for anyone who wants to chat about ORM (object-relational mapping) … ObjectSpaces: The Devil is in the Demand _I’ve coined the phrase ‘object span’ to describe the ability to front load a graph-based query with enough information to cherry pick at the best bits of data so data retrieval is optimized to the application.I’ve even written about that _ [ _here_ ](http://blogs.

Robert Green Talks About Communities for Visual Basic .NET

Apr 20, 2004 1 min.

I had read this in the ‘offline’ version of MSDN magazine (you know, that one that uses paper and is hard to copy and paste from?), but I hadn’t noticed it was available online until now: ** [Robert Green Talks About Communities for Visual Basic .NET](http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/04/04/TalkingTo/default.aspx) ** _MSDN Magazine recently talked to Robert Green, the Community Lead Program Manager for Visual Basic, about what to expect in the next version and how the Visual Basic team hopes to work more closely with the Visual Basic community.

Somewhere inside me… an audiophile just died.

Apr 20, 2004 3 min.

I am a closet audiophile, with all the usual history…. did the ‘music man’ thing for plays, moved up to music guy for bar bands, blah, blah, blah… spent way too much time worried about the alignment of my high-end tape deck, etc… but at some point my obsession with all things audio related slipped down in my priority list. I’m not sure exactly when, but at that point I stopped being willing to spend money on improving the quality of sound in my house, car or work.

pinvoke.net … a place to post and find all the Win32 API signatures you need …

Apr 20, 2004 2 min.

Adam Nathan has created a home for a ton of PInvoke signatures, organized by Module/DLL and pre-populated (by the man himself) with a ton of the most common signatures… I’ll let the site describe itself with this text from the “What is this site?” page; [PINVOKE.NET](http://pinvoke.net/) attempts to address the difficulty of calling Win32 or other unmanaged APIs in managed code (languages such as C# and VB .NET).Manually defining and using PInvoke signatures (also known as Declare statements in VB .

Scott Nonnenberg on Debugger Visualizers in VS 2005

Apr 18, 2004 1 min.

With code samples and screenshots based on the recent Community drop of Whidbey (VS 2005), Scott explains how to create your first debugger visualizer: Debugger Visualizers on VS 2005 Community Tech Preview _... Visualizers allow for advanced, customized viewing of data while debugging. Today's data windows have their limitations; text-only, hierarchical, spatially constrained – not the best for viewing an image, for example. Visualizers allow you to create completely custom views using WinForms to best show the data within any managed object.

Developing Office Add-Ins using .NET

I’ve done this myself, including using a C++ shim to authenticode sign my add-in to get around http://blogs.msdn.com/brada/archive/2004/04/15/114332.aspx

If you haven’t been reading his blog, then just let me point out that this post is completely consistent with all of his others… I’ll let you decide if this is a good or bad thing 🙂 … _.... I suspect that a whole hoard of you banded together to try and unravel the mystery of this charade of glastnost that has [been] perpetrated upon the world. You probably suspected that something was up from the moment the first Microsoft bloggers took to the web, hitting hard like a platoon of soldiers storming onto the shore to capture that first beachhead.
