A letter to North Dakota by Randy Sarafan…

Apr 21, 2006 1 min.

I was browsing around on Randy’s web site after reading about an upcoming session of his at Makers Faire (hacking USB keyboards!!), and I found this: http://www.randywritesletters.com/005.html All of the letters on that site (which has little or no navigation elements, so just edit the URL appropriately to go up to the front page) are hilarious, but for some reason I find this one to be the best… let me know if you disagree.

RE: I stumped Major Nelson

Apr 18, 2006 1 min.

The source behind several of our questions for the recent Major Nelson bit on 10 is revealed, thanks Xbox Elle! A fun little game show, [How well do you know your box](http://on10.net/TheShow/2206/)(or is it Xbox? I can't tell), was posted to on10.net on Friday. Laura and Tina try to stump Major Nelson with a bunch of trivia questions, and guess what, three of them were mine! Tee hee!

Ok, so *this* has never happened with a Visual Basic book…

I’ve remarked to a few people that writing a more ‘consumer’ focused book has been quite different from my usual area of writing (covering programming topics mostly), but this takes the cake. Gadget Models, a site that seems to combine the two popular topics of models and technology, has run a feature that includes our book. Sadly, we weren’t at all involved. Note to anyone who is worried about the content of the site itself, I didn’t look through it all but it doesn’t seem to cross into nudity or anything like that…

Another ‘episode’ by me is up on 10

Apr 14, 2006 1 min.

Yesterday my segment on Heart Rate Monitors went up onto on10.net, featuring a new monitor from Polar and the cool EnterTrainer product… check out the video to learn more! Oh, and unlike some of the comments suggested, lifting up my shirt on camera is embarassing… and yet, I did it twice on camera!!

Found some pre-existing source code to send test pingbacks

Apr 5, 2006 1 min.

I wrote my own for Trackbacks, which I used to incorporate trackbacks into http://on10.net, but Geoff provides one on his blog (that doesn’t appear to support comments, but does support trackbacks, so I thought I had better blog about it to thank him) that does both. Silly me, I hadn’t built pingback support into on10.net, thinking that Trackbacks would handle most cases… but it turns out that many sites (including wordpress) only send pingbacks… oh well, at least it will be there after our next sprint.

I think it is a good sign that Oblivion makes me anti-social

Apr 1, 2006 1 min.

So, another blog post in my series about how much I’m enjoying Oblivion… I really want to buy Blazing Angels, but it seems pointless to get it right now… I know I won’t play it. At this point, I probably haven’t play anywhere nearly as much as a more dedicated (some one with no children, and without a job that tends to lead to working in the evening?) gamer. But I’m still having a great time.
