Video Marketplace Up on Xbox Live

Nov 22, 2006 1 min.

(from Major Nelson) …moments ago we flipped the switch and the service is now available for all U.S. Xbox Live members. No dashboard update needed…just sign in to Xbox Live, and head over to Marketplace, then Media and Entertainment. You can also hit it directly from the Media blade->Video Marketplace. If you have any questions, hit this FAQ or this FAQ on the Xbox forums. It’s fitting that on the Xbox 360’s first birthday, it becomes the first gaming console in history to provide HD TV shows and movies directly to your gaming lair….

Creating backgrounds for your Zune

Nov 20, 2006 4 min.

On the Zune, any picture on the device can be set as the background for all of the menus, providing a great way to customize the look of your Zune. The screen on your Zune is 240 pixels wide and 320 pixels high (holding it in ‘portrait mode’, with the navigation pad at the bottom), so that is the proportions you want to shoot for as a background, but if you are making your own background images, then there are few things you should be aware of.

A PS3 Poem from a Neowin commenter

Nov 8, 2006 1 min.

Just yesterday I spotted an old dusty lamp and begun to clean it. With my greatest surprise a geni[e] popped out offering to fullfill a wish. Being a train lover and wishing to visit the USA I asked for a rail bridge across the Atlantic Ocean. The geni[e] got sad and said [to]me: “Sorry but did you consider the amount of material needed for the bridge, the tectonic shift not counting the fact that one should get Europeans to agree on a common electric power supply and on the environmental impact, please ask me something different…”

Free Vista Icons

Nov 8, 2006 1 min.

If you are looking for Aero/Glass style icons… check out http://www.vistaico.com/ This is a spin-off site from http://www.vistaicons.com/ where you can find a few more icons… I’m still trying to find the money side of this (I’m assuming you give away good icons to lead to a purchase of more? But I can’t find any to buy…) so let me know if you figure it out.

Hooking an Xbox up to a PC monitor

Nov 5, 2006 1 min.

Ok, so if I was dealing with a 360, I could just pick up the VGA output cable… but for some reason, we never made one of those for the original Xbox. Now, I’ve found some companies that make reasonably priced converters from component video inputs to VGA (I’ve found several in the unreasonable price range too) but either they are permantely out of stock… or they look a little … hmm… how to say this, not like someone I’d like to give my credit card to?
