# Understanding the multiple install modes for Silverlight
I had seen both styles of banners, but until reading [Laurence's post on the subject](https://blogs.msdn.com/webnext/archive/2007/05/08/silverlight-install-modes.aspx), I didn't know why there was two... or how to change which one showed up.
